Top US health provider tells 882,000 patients they were hit in August 2023 breach

Hospital Sisters Health System, a nonprofit Catholic healthcare system, has reported a cyberattack to the Maine Attorney General’s office. The breach, which occurred in August 2023, exposed the data of over 800,000 individuals compromising sensitive information such as names, addresses, medical records, SSNs, and more. While there is no evidence of misuse, affected individuals are being offered a year of free identity theft monitoring as a precautionary measure. The incident highlights the value of healthcare data on the black market and the risks of identity theft and fraud associated with such breaches.
