NBN Co, the national broadband provider, recently announced its half-year results up to December 31, 2024. Approximately 594,000 households have accepted the offer for a complimentary upgrade to full-fibre technology, capable of supporting NBN 1000 plans and a forthcoming 2Gbps tier by September. The majority of homes connected to the fixed-line NBN network are eligible to upgrade, with expectations set for completion by 2030.

Furthermore, plans for upgrading the last copper-based FTTN-connected homes by 2030 are underway, with an estimated 622,000 homes benefiting from this initiative, primarily in regional Australia. NBN Co also unveiled advancements in its fixed wireless network coverage and plans to explore new satellite internet options to replace the existing Sky Muster network.

With the increasing value of faster NBN plans and a larger pool of upgrade-eligible homes, now is deemed an opportune time to upgrade. Faster internet speeds not only offer quicker downloads and streaming but also enhanced reliability and fewer outages. Individuals can check their eligibility for the free FTTP upgrade on the NBN website and choose from various NBN plans, potentially including upcoming 2Gbps options. Select plans from providers are highlighted to assist in making an informed decision.

In related news, Vodafone mobile plans have expanded coverage, particularly benefiting regional users, while a recent ACCC report shows a trend of Australians upgrading NBN services for both speed and reliability. For those seeking budget-friendly NBN plans, a range of options are available for consideration.
