A new 3D audio format called Eclipsa, developed by Google and Samsung to rival Dolby Atmos, has been unveiled at CES 2025. It is set to launch on all 2025 Samsung TVs and soundbars. Eclipsa will be integrated into Android 16 operating system, making it available on various smart TVs using Android OS and LG TVs using webOS. The format, being channel-based, aims to provide immersive sound experiences for home listening. Google and Samsung aim to make Eclipsa accessible across Android devices, including YouTube. However, the format’s success will depend on the involvement of major streaming services and content creators.
