Tech enthusiast integrates air conditioning unit to cool PC components

A Chinese tech enthusiast has ingeniously incorporated a 12,000 BTU air conditioning unit into the liquid cooling system of an RTX 4090 GPU and an Intel Core i9-13900K processor. This unconventional setup involves replacing the conventional radiator with a household AC unit, offering remarkable cooling capabilities.

Initial tests reveal that the RTX 4090 maintained a low temperature of only 20°C even under stress testing. Outdoors, the GPU temperature dropped to an impressive 2°C at idle and 20°C under load, showcasing the AC unit’s cooling prowess. However, integrating such a system into a PC involves complex processes like welding, refrigerant management, and custom piping, making it impractical for the average user.

Energy consumption is a significant concern, as the AC unit can draw around 1.2 kW of power, considerably higher than typical PC cooling solutions. Moreover, extreme cooling can lead to condensation, posing a risk to the system’s longevity. The large size of the AC unit further adds to the impracticality of this setup.

While this project demonstrates impressive cooling performance, it seems more like a hobby project rather than a practical solution due to the involved processes, high energy consumption, and risks associated with extreme cooling. This innovative integration pushes the boundaries of PC cooling but may not be suitable for mainstream adoption.
