Zacks Investment Research, a financial data and stock analysis company based in Chicago, was recently targeted in a cyberattack resulting in the exposure of sensitive data belonging to approximately 12 million individuals. The breach, reportedly orchestrated by a hacker who posted details of the attack on an underground forum, led to the theft of personal information such as names, usernames, email addresses, postal addresses, and phone numbers.

The hacker claimed to have infiltrated Zacks’ systems in June 2024, gaining unauthorized access to their active directory and source code for various assets. Zacks has not yet responded to media inquiries regarding the breach. This incident marks another in a series of cyber incidents for Zacks, as they previously faced breaches in December 2022 and June 2023, compromising data of hundreds of thousands and millions of users, respectively.

Furthermore, the website “Have I Been Pwned?” has reported the exposure of the latest batch of email addresses from this breach, with a significant portion having been compromised in past incidents. Zacks’ track record with cybersecurity issues indicates a need for heightened security measures to safeguard the personal information of their customers.
