ExpressVPN’s latest upgrade to Lightway hopes to create “the VPN protocol of the future”

ExpressVPN has recently made a significant advancement by switching its Lightway protocol from C to Rust in order to enhance security and performance for users. This move modernizes the protocol to Rust programming language, ensuring transparency and maintaining security with the code being open source and accessible for scrutiny.
Independent auditing firms, Cure53 and Praetorian, have verified the privacy and security of the upgraded Lightway service. The new protocol is being first introduced on ExpressVPN Aircove, with plans to extend the upgrade to all other devices, including Android VPN, by the end of March.
The Rust upgrade of Lightway promises improved security, performance, and extendibility, positioning itself as a standard for future VPN protocols. ExpressVPN aims not only to enhance its own product but also to influence the industry to prioritize security and efficiency.
