In a recent update, Apple is planning to debut its M5 chip later this year. According to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, the M5 chip is expected to make its first appearance in the MacBook Pro before transitioning to the iPad Pro. The new M5 chip is anticipated to bring a minor update compared to the M6 chip planned for next year.

The shift in launching the M5 chip in the MacBook Pro first is seen as a strategic move by Apple, deviating from the previous launch sequence seen with the M4 chip. With new MacBook Pro models expected in the fall of 2025, the M5 iPad Pro is projected to follow in the first half of 2026. While the update may not be groundbreaking, a performance boost of 15% to 25% is predicted for the M5 chip along with potential features like Wi-Fi 7 and Thunderbolt 5 connectivity for entry-level MacBook Pro models.

Apple is also reportedly planning a more extensive overhaul for the MacBook Pro in 2026 with the M6 chip, featuring an OLED display, new design, and improved performance. While the M5 chip is set to debut in the MacBook Pro ahead of the iPad Pro, customers seeking a significant redesign may need to wait for the M6 chip release in 2026.
