Electric bicycle component manufacturer Bosch has introduced a new ‘Battery Lock’ feature aimed at combating bike thefts. The innovation, showcased at CES 2025, addresses the rising issue of battery thefts accompanying the growing popularity of eBikes. This summer, a software update will bring the Battery Lock feature to users with a Flow+ subscription through the brand’s Flow app. This digital security enhancement complements mechanical locks by automatically disabling the electric motor if a stolen battery is connected to another eBike in the smart system, rendering the bike inoperable and discouraging resale of stolen parts. The feature is designed to provide peace of mind for owners of expensive eBikes. While the technology will be available for various Bosch battery systems, a Flow+ subscription is required for optimal protection, with a yearly fee applicable after the trial period. With major cycling brands like Bergamont and Canyon relying on Bosch components, this new innovation is set to deter theft and illegal resale practices in the eBike market.
