US President Joe Biden has taken a significant step by signing an executive order to accelerate the establishment of data centers in the country. The focus is on enhancing domestic AI infrastructure and addressing national security and environmental concerns. Termed as “frontier AI data centers,” these facilities are envisioned to develop powerful AI models. The Department of Defense and the Department of Energy are tasked with identifying suitable sites for these centers. President Biden emphasizes that operators should match their electricity consumption with clean energy sources like geothermal, nuclear, wind, and solar. In addition, stringent security measures are to be implemented to ensure protection. The objective is to position the US as a leader in AI data centers and maintain a competitive edge while safeguarding national interests. This initiative comes amid geopolitical tensions and the incoming investment of $20 billion by Emirati billionaire Hussain Sajwani into America’s AI infrastructure.
