Juniper Networks has issued a warning about the resurgence of the Mirai botnet, which is actively scanning for vulnerable routers to carry out Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks. The cyber threat, targeting Session Smart routers with default login credentials, poses a significant risk to users. The campaign, initiated in December 2024, underscores the importance of enhancing security measures to prevent potential compromises. Amidst growing concerns, experts emphasize the necessity of using strong passwords and firewall protection to safeguard against malicious activities. Despite the notoriety of the Mirai botnet, other malware variants like StormBot, Mozi, Satori, and Mantis also pose serious threats by launching disruptive attacks across the web. This ongoing threat landscape highlights the persistent challenges faced in securing Internet of Things (IoT) devices against cyber vulnerabilities.
