CEOs of Microsoft and Alphabet, Satya Nadella and Sundar Pichai, have come together with other tech industry leaders to invest in a London cricket team. The consortium, spearheaded by Nikesh Arora of Palo Alto Networks, secured a £145 million deal for a 49% stake in the London Spirit franchise, which plays at Lord’s cricket ground. The bid, valued at over £300 million, is the largest in this year’s tender. The group of investors includes top executives such as Shantanu Narayen of Adobe and Egon Durban of Silver Lake Management. Meanwhile, the Indian-American IT entrepreneur Sanjay Govil invested £80m in the Welsh Fire franchise, and Mukesh Ambani, India’s richest man, acquired a stake in the Oval Invincibles. Cricket enthusiasts Nadella and Pichai, who are known for their love of the sport, are among the key figures driving this significant investment in the cricketing world.
