Netgear recently identified and addressed critical vulnerabilities affecting various access points and routers, prompting the release of new firmware for affected devices. The flaws, including a remote code execution vulnerability (PSV-2023-0039) and an authentication bypass flaw (PSV-2021-0017), could be exploited without user interaction. Users of WiFi 6 access points and Nighthawk Pro Gaming Routers such as XR1000, XR1000v2, XR500, WAX206, WAX220, and WAX214v2 were advised to promptly apply the fixes. Netgear emphasized the importance of updating firmware to prevent potential security risks associated with cyberattacks targeting routers and WiFi access points due to their role as crucial gateways between local networks and the internet. By staying vigilant and updating devices, users can reduce the risk of falling victim to known vulnerabilities and unauthorized access. As a key player in the networking industry, Netgear continues to be a prime target for cyber threats, highlighting the importance of proactive security measures and timely updates to safeguard against potential exploits.
