An unidentified source disclosed to The Washington Post that the launch of the new Alexa with enhanced AI capabilities scheduled for February 26 might be delayed due to inaccuracies in responding to test queries. The anonymous insider indicated that Alexa’s release could be pushed back to March 31 to address these accuracy concerns. Despite the setback, Amazon is still expected to unveil the updated version of Alexa at the planned New York event, albeit with potential limitations on demonstrating its capabilities to avoid showcasing any flaws. Previous speculations had also hinted at a 2024 launch delay for Alexa attributed to similar accuracy issues. If the reported issues persist, it could jeopardize Amazon’s proposed subscription model for Alexa assistance, which could cost users $5-$10 per month. However, the current iteration of Alexa is anticipated to remain free and reliable. The upgraded Alexa is projected to handle multiple commands simultaneously and take proactive actions without direct prompts, potentially offering a more efficient user experience. While the notion of Alexa having access to personal data and online shopping abilities raises privacy concerns, resolving accuracy challenges could position Alexa as the advanced home assistant many envisioned it to be.
