Healthcare software company ConnectOnCall has been hit by a significant data breach, compromising the sensitive personal and health information of over 900,000 patients. The breach, which occurred between February and May 2023, exposed medical records, prescription details, full names, and phone numbers, with a few social security numbers also being compromised.

As a result, ConnectOnCall services have been temporarily suspended to assess and rectify the situation. The company Phreesia, which manages the software, is cooperating with law enforcement to understand the extent of the breach and mitigate any potential impacts on the affected individuals.

While there is no evidence of malicious activity related to the breach thus far, the incident underscores the inherent risks of unauthorized access to healthcare data. ConnectOnCall is providing identity and credit monitoring services to those whose social security numbers were exposed, and is advising all potentially impacted individuals to remain vigilant and report any suspected identity theft.

This breach is part of a trend of cybersecurity incidents targeting the healthcare industry and highlights the ongoing challenges of safeguarding sensitive patient information. It serves as a reminder of the importance of robust data protection measures in the face of evolving cyber threats.
