Apple is facing a class-action lawsuit over its Apple Watch bands as it is alleged that the bands contain dangerous levels of “forever chemicals.” The lawsuit claims that Apple is misleading customers by not disclosing the presence of toxic per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in its products. The lawsuit was filed in California on behalf of customers who purchased certain Apple Watch bands, stating that these bands are marketed as promoting health and wellness, being eco-friendly, and suitable for daily use while actually containing high levels of harmful PFAS.

The lawsuit comes after a University of Notre Dame study revealed excessive PFAS levels in smartwatch bands, including some bands by Apple. The study raised concerns about the health risks associated with these chemicals. Apple responded by asserting that its Apple Watch bands are safe for users, mentioning rigorous testing procedures and compliance with health safety standards. The lawsuit demands Apple to change its business practices, provide compensation to affected users, and take necessary actions to address the issue of harmful chemicals in its products.

While PFAS are known as “forever chemicals” due to their persistent nature and potential health hazards, there is limited research on the absorption of these chemicals through the skin. The lawsuit seeks relief, injunctive measures, and financial compensation for users affected by the alleged PFAS presence in Apple Watch bands.
