In response to a recent rule change within CISPE (cloud infrastructure service providers in Europe), Amazon Web Services (AWS) has voluntarily stepped down from the board. The new regulation specifies that only European-based companies can hold board positions, although non-European vendors with revenue exceeding €10 billion can still be non-voting members. CISPE has introduced a Sovereignty and Strategic Autonomy Committee to meet the demand for European cloud and AI solutions amidst growing concerns over economic and geopolitical dependencies. The move reinforces the need for a strong European cloud ecosystem to ensure resilience and independence. Some existing board members from various European countries have been re-elected, and new members from Austria and the UK have joined. AWS expressed pride in its past contributions to CISPE and affirmed its dedication to supporting the association’s initiatives. Meanwhile, Microsoft has entered into a partnership with CISPE, emphasizing collaboration in Europe despite previous cloud-related conflicts in the region.
