BBC Sounds is now seamlessly integrated with BMW and MINI cars, offering access to radio and podcasts for over 50,000 UK drivers. The app is the first to be integrated with these car brands’ audio systems, with selected models receiving the feature initially, expanding further soon. By the end of 2025, it’s anticipated that 150,000 drivers will benefit from this integration.
Previously, using BBC Sounds in a car required Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, or Bluetooth dongles; now, with version 9 of the car’s operating system, the app is directly accessible from the car dashboard. However, to utilize the app, a subscription to BMW Digital Premium or the MINI Connected Package is necessary, providing the data package essential for mobile audio streaming.
For optimal performance, signing in with a BBC account is recommended for seamless synchronization between devices. Compatible models include various BMW and MINI models, starting from specific years, for smooth operation of the app within the vehicles. For those not owning a BMW or MINI or using non-compatible models, the BBC Sounds app is readily available on Google and Apple app stores.
