Disney Plus experienced a decrease of 700,000 subscribers in the last quarter, marking the first time the platform has seen such a drop. Despite this, the service is generating higher revenue than ever before. The decline in subscribers is attributed to factors such as price increases and efforts to combat password sharing.
Although the subscriber loss may seem concerning at first glance, it represents just over 0.5% of the total user base, which currently stands at 124.6 million. The recent price hikes on Disney Plus have contributed to increased revenue, with the US and Canada regions seeing a growth of 800,000 subscribers even after the price adjustments.
The earnings report reveals that Disney Plus in the US and Canada experienced a significant rise in monthly revenue, from $431.2 million to $453.83 million. Despite potential further subscriber losses in the future, Disney is unlikely to change its pricing strategy anytime soon. This trend suggests that more price increases and crackdowns on password sharing may be expected in the streaming industry in 2025.
