A recent annual report by Yubico reveals concerning statistics regarding cybersecurity among Gen Z and Millennials. Despite being the most aware of hardware security keys, 47% of Gen Z and 46% of Millennials reported having their social media account passwords hacked. Surprisingly, 73% of Gen Z expressed concerns about AI in cyberattacks. The report highlights a lack of cybersecurity education, with 70% of respondents falling victim to cyberattacks in the past year and 40% receiving no cybersecurity training at work.
Furthermore, attitudes towards cybersecurity in the workplace are alarming, with many individuals prioritizing personal data security over that of their company. Yubico advocates for alternative authentication methods, such as passwordless MFA solutions, emphasizing the use of physical security keys for enhanced security and simplicity in user experience. It concludes by promoting the adoption of emerging technologies like hardware security keys to safeguard digital identities and systems, despite 39% of respondents still believing in the security of standard username and password combinations.
