The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has filed a formal complaint against GoDaddy, accusing the company of misleading customers and insufficiently protecting its web hosting services from 2019 to 2022. The FTC highlights major security compromises and various security failings by GoDaddy in the official complaint. These include incidents of sensitive data breaches, malicious site redirections, and vulnerabilities in user authentication. As a result of the settlement reached between GoDaddy and the FTC, the company agrees to refrain from making false security claims, implement an information security program, conduct regular compliance assessments, and report security incidents promptly to the FTC. Despite the settlement terms, GoDaddy denies any fault and monetary penalties. The company states its commitment to enhancing security measures to protect customers’ data and websites from evolving threats.
