Google TV’s free channel lineup has seen a decrease of 9 channels, including the beloved Bob Ross Channel. Despite this cut, last year saw the addition of numerous new channels, marking a shift in the trend of Google TV expanding its free content offerings for the US audience.

The removal of popular channels like The Hill TV and Dog Whisperer with Cesar Milan has stirred discussions among viewers, with the announcement coinciding with the rise of Free Ad-supported Streaming Television (FAST) platforms. While platforms like Tubi and Pluto continue to offer free content globally, the dynamics of content availability remain unpredictable, emphasizing the transient nature of streaming services.

Despite the recent channel cull, Google TV remains a significant player in the FAST landscape, having introduced multiple new channels throughout 2024 and unveiling the Google TV Streamer device in August. With a diverse range of offerings, Google TV continues to provide entertainment options for viewers seeking ad-supported content in the ever-evolving streaming industry.
