IKEA has introduced a new smart home app for Apple Watch, enabling users to control their IKEA smart lights directly from their wrist. The app, although yet to be officially announced, has surfaced on the App Store. While the IKEA Home Smart app’s change log does not indicate the addition of the new watchOS app, screenshots reveal features allowing users to toggle lights on and off, adjust brightness, select lighting scenes, and customize colors.

The existing iPad, iPhone, and Android versions of IKEA Home Smart also enable control over other devices like smart speakers, blinds, and air purifiers. However, the WatchOS version screenshots exclusively showcase options for smart lights, with potential for expansion to include more devices in future updates. Users will need watchOS 10.6 or later, along with an IKEA Dirigera hub to connect IKEA devices and function as a Matter bridge.

Initially focusing on IKEA smart lights, the Apple Watch app could potentially incorporate support for additional devices later on. Users without IKEA lights can operate compatible smart bulbs and lamps through Apple HomeKit, offering features such as turning lights on/off, adjusting brightness, and changing colors. Other smart light alternatives like Govee’s Home app for Apple Watch also offer similar functionalities for users.

While an official Philips Hue app for Apple Watch is no longer available, users can still control Hue lights using Apple HomeKit or third-party apps like Hue for Watch. The report further discusses troubleshooting tips for Philips Hue lights and the convenience of Nanoleaf’s Ambilight alternative, highlighting the use of augmented reality to preview Philips Hue lights in one’s home.
