A former Rockstar developer has revealed that Grand Theft Auto 6 is anticipated to operate at a steady 30FPS on PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S consoles. In a now-deleted podcast episode on Kiwi Talkz, Mike York, known for his work on Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 as an animator, shared insights on the upcoming GTA title. York expressed skepticism about achieving a 60FPS performance, suggesting that efforts may be directed towards maintaining a locked 30FPS. While a future PC release could potentially see optimization for 60FPS, the initial launch on base consoles may target 30FPS. This strategy aligns with the prior evolution of GTA 5, which transitioned to 60FPS upon its release on PS5 and Xbox Series X. The industry is eager to witness how Rockstar Games will navigate performance optimization and framerate enhancements to balance gameplay experience and technical capabilities in the highly-anticipated GTA 6, slated for a Fall 2025 launch.
