LinkedIn has revealed a challenging trend in the field of HR, where professionals are struggling to find the right talent more than ever. According to their latest report titled “UK Jobs on the Rise,” the process of sourcing suitable candidates has become increasingly time-consuming. Surprisingly, around 23% of HR workers are spending three to five hours daily sifting through applications, with 42% noting that less than half of applicants meet the specified criteria.

The data from LinkedIn indicates a shift in the job market dynamics, with 41% of candidates applying to more positions but receiving fewer responses. This has led to a higher level of difficulty in the hiring process, with 54% of job seekers and 79% of HR professionals feeling the impact. The evolving demands for skills in various industries, driven by AI and automation, have resulted in the emergence of new roles related to AI and sustainability. More than half of the roles listed in the UK Jobs on the Rise were non-existent 25 years ago, highlighting the need for individuals with updated technical skills.

Despite the challenges, there is optimism for the future. 65% of organizations are planning to prioritize AI upskilling, while 64% are focusing on sustainability efforts. AI is not only influencing job roles but also streamlining the hiring process, with 67% of HR professionals acknowledging its role in finding qualified candidates. Looking ahead, there is an opportunity for job seekers and leaders to adapt to the changing landscape of skills, ensuring competitiveness in a rapidly evolving job market.
