Intel has recently published the sixth annual Product Security Report, detailing its approach to addressing security vulnerabilities. In the report, Intel criticizes rivals AMD and Nvidia, accusing AMD of having 78 vulnerabilities with no planned remedies, and Nvidia of only high-severity security bugs.
The report discusses Intel’s security challenges, highlighting how they were resolved and emphasizing Intel’s belief in having a competitive advantage in security assurance. Intel states that almost all the new vulnerabilities discovered in 2024 were found internally, including hardware issues detected by its own research team.
In comparison to AMD, Intel claims that AMD reported more firmware vulnerabilities in hardware root-of-trust and confidential computing technologies. Furthermore, Intel points out that AMD identified only 57% of all reported platform vulnerabilities and has 78 remaining flaws without proposed fixes.
Regarding Nvidia, Intel mentions that Nvidia reported 18 high-severity vulnerabilities, with 13 being remote code execution flaws. Meanwhile, Intel’s GPUs had 10 reported issues, one of which was a severe bug. Both AMD and Nvidia have not responded to the report yet.
While these reports should be viewed with caution, noting their one-sided nature due to competitive dynamics, Intel remains a dominant force in the CPU market, albeit facing increased competition from AMD. In the GPU sector, although Nvidia leads the market, Intel has introduced Gaudi 3 as a competitor. However, Intel faced setbacks with its Falcon Shores lineup and had to cancel its next-gen release.
It is essential to stay cautious and consider all perspectives when digesting reports of this nature, especially in highly competitive industries.
