Microsoft gets rid of ‘Edge uninstall’ advice page after facing criticism over it having nothing to do with removing the app, and just promoting the browser instead

Microsoft recently removed an online document that appeared to be a guide on uninstalling the Edge browser but was actually aimed at persuading users to keep using it. The so-called ‘uninstall document’ initially seemed to help users remove Edge, but upon closer inspection, it focused on comparing Edge to Google Chrome and highlighting the benefits of the former browser.

This tactic received backlash for its misleading nature, prompting Microsoft to take down the webpage. Users attempting to access the page are now redirected to the Edge portal. Microsoft has a history of promoting Edge, and despite its qualities, the constant push may inadvertently deter users. While it is challenging to completely uninstall Edge from Windows 11 due to system dependencies, Microsoft’s persistent efforts to promote the browser might have an adverse effect on user adoption.
