Caselani’s Type-Ami Adds Retro Charm to Affordable Electric Vehicle
Caselani, an Italian coach builder, is adding a touch of retro charm to the Citroen Ami, one of the smallest electric vehicles on the market. The Type-Ami design is inspired by the iconic Type-H Van panel vans from the late 1940s, featuring corrugated metal outer body panels and angular lines reminiscent of classic industrial design.
Customers have the option to purchase a complete Type-Ami vehicle for $13,400, which includes customization choices such as different color options and upgraded interior materials. Alternatively, a $5,200 DIY kit is available for existing Citroen Ami owners to transform their vehicles into the vintage-inspired Type-Ami.
The Citroen Ami, classified as a heavy quadricycle in France, is gaining popularity in Europe as an affordable urban mobility solution. With its 8hp electric motor and limited top speed, the Ami is accessible to young drivers and is being utilized in car sharing schemes and by private buyers for short-distance travel.
While the Type-Ami project may seem like a whimsical endeavor, it has garnered interest from customers seeking a unique and stylish way to stand out on the road. Fabrizio Caselani, the company’s founder, initially created the H-Van body kit for personal enjoyment but made it available to the public due to high demand.
In a world moving towards electric vehicles, the Type-Ami offers a blend of nostalgia and modern convenience for those looking to make a statement wherever they drive.
