Business leaders and executives are gearing up for the anticipation of the next significant IT disruption as we approach 2025, following a study by PagerDuty. This comes after the unexpected CrowdStrike outage in July 2024 which left 83% of businesses unprepared. The research reveals a shift in mindset, with 88% believing another major incident is inevitable within the next year. While there has been a considerable increase in cybersecurity investment, 86% feel this has come at the cost of readiness for future disruptions. Particularly in the UK, where 89% were surprised by the previous outage.

The effects of the 2024 disruptions were widespread, impacting revenue for 37% of businesses and forcing 44% to resort to manual processes. Looking forward, an overwhelming majority of leaders (78% to 91% depending on the country) are now actively preparing for the next outage, focusing on readiness as an ongoing effort rather than a one-time investment. PagerDuty emphasizes the need for real-time data tools to enhance outage preparedness.
