A new player in the VPN industry, Obscura VPN, has recently entered the market, aiming to set a new standard for privacy and circumventing internet restrictions. Launched on February 11, 2025, the service distinguishes itself by being “private by design” and using innovative methods to outsmart censorship. Partnering with Mullvad VPN, Obscura VPN provides a two-party VPN service, separating users’ identity from their online activity. It incorporates QUIC technology to effectively bypass censorship. Although currently available only for macOS, the service plans to expand to other platforms in the future. Offered at a discounted rate of $6 per month, Obscura VPN’s fully open-source nature allows users to scrutinize its code for transparency. Time will tell if Obscura VPN can indeed outperform its competitors in the crowded VPN market.
