Pakistan telecom authority blames VPN usage for slow internet speeds

A recent report by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) revealed that the increasing use of VPNs in Pakistan is causing slow internet speeds and significant economic losses. VPN usage is reported to have peaked at 815 Gbps in October, leading to concerns about the pressure on the country’s internet infrastructure. The government’s attempt to regulate VPNs as a security risk has faced legal challenges, with the PTA issuing new directives for VPN companies to obtain a Class License for Data Services and share users’ information with authorities. This move marks a new phase in the PTA’s efforts to regulate VPN usage in Pakistan, amidst ongoing debates about internet censorship and restrictions.
