Sony’s next flagship wireless headphones just edged closer to launch – here’s when they might land

Sony is gearing up to introduce new headphones, likely to be the Sony WH-1000XM6, based on recent product filings with the FCC and IMDA in the US and Singapore. The filings, under the code name YY2984, hint at an updated version of the Sony WH-1000XM5, a flagship in Sony’s headphones line. While specific details are limited due to confidentiality agreements, it is anticipated that the new headphones will be launched in the first half of 2025, potentially in April or May.
The upcoming headphones are expected to feature fast charging and Bluetooth 5.3, improvements over the previous model. Although details on battery capacity are unknown, Bluetooth 5.3 will offer a more stable and efficient connection. The driver size of the XM6 appears to remain the same as the XM5 at 30mm, suggesting no significant audio changes. Overall, the Sony WH-1000XM6 headphones promise to deliver an enhanced user experience, building upon the success of their predecessor.
