Smartkem, a key player in organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs), is teaming up with Taiwan’s top display manufacturer, AUO, to introduce a groundbreaking innovation in the display industry. Their collaboration aims to develop the world’s first rollable, transparent microLED display, leveraging Smartkem’s OTFT technology that allows for low-temperature processing and eliminates complex manufacturing processes. This project, funded by the Taiwan-UK Research & Development Collaboration, is set to revolutionize how microLED displays are produced, potentially reducing the cost of MicroLED TVs significantly. With Smartkem’s unique technology, the era of affordable microLED displays for various applications such as retail signage and automotive dashboards is on the horizon.
