Medusind, a prominent medical billing firm, has reported a significant data breach affecting 360,000 individuals. The cyberattack, which occurred on December 29, 2023, resulted in the loss of sensitive information, including payment details and personal data of patients receiving billing support from healthcare organizations associated with Medusind. The stolen data includes health insurance details, payment information, health records, government IDs, and other personal information, putting victims at risk of identity theft. While there is no current evidence of data misuse, Medusind is offering two years of free identity theft monitoring through Kroll to the affected individuals. Healthcare organizations, due to the nature of the data they handle, are prime targets for such attacks, with ransomware incidents costing an average of $2.57 million to recover from in 2024. It is essential for victims to monitor their accounts for any suspicious activities and report them to the authorities.
