SanDisk and ShiftCam have unveiled portable SSDs that can be attached to iPhones to expand storage for photos and videos. SanDisk’s Creator Phone SSD, magnetically attached using MagSafe, offers 1TB and 2TB sizes with USB 3.2 Gen 2 connectivity for quick transfers, durability with three-meter drop protection, and is priced at $109.99 and $169.99 respectively. ShiftCam’s Planck, dubbed the ‘world’s smallest’ portable SSD, provides up to 1,050MB/s transfer speeds, IP65 protection, and weighs just 10 grams, available in 1TB and 2TB options priced at $189 and $229. A Kickstarter campaign in February will offer reduced prices. These options offer iPhone users alternatives to costly internal storage upgrades by Apple for enhanced storage capacity in 2025.
