Microsoft is making changes to the search feature in Windows 11 for users in the European Economic Area (EEA) to comply with the EU’s Digital Markets Act. The Start Menu search now separates local on-device results from web results, which are powered by Bing. Other changes driven by the DMA include uninstalling Edge and disabling Bing search, but only for EEA users. This adjustment addresses concerns over fair competition and offers users more control over their Windows 11 experience. The updates aim to provide clearer search results and promote user choice, reflecting Microsoft’s commitment to meeting regulatory requirements while enhancing user experience.
