Did anybody buy the PlayStation Portal? Apparently so, with almost two million units sold so far

3% of PS5 owners, roughly 2 million units, have purchased the PlayStation Portal, a streaming handheld most used at night. Despite initial scarcity at launch in November 2023, the sales data indicates successful adoption of the accessory. Sony shared insights on the device’s usage patterns, with peak times around 9 PM. The PlayStation Portal functions as a remote-play handheld, streaming games from the PS5 over the internet. Sony’s Cloud Game Streaming Beta for PlayStation Plus Premium members enhances the accessory’s functionality, potentially increasing sales. Additionally, Sony’s vice president discussed scenarios where users switch from playing on the console to using the PS Portal in another room. Exciting updates to look forward to in the gaming industry and potential comebacks of classic franchises have been hinted at by PlayStation’s CEO.
