Garmin has recently released its Q1 2025 beta update for participants in its public beta testing program. Alongside enhancements to Garmin Coach, Body Battery, and other standard features in top Garmin watches, a notable addition is a security passcode feature for its Fenix, Enduro, Forerunner, Venu, and Vivoactive lines. Termed as Passcode, the new feature aims to safeguard sensitive data in case of loss or theft. It will include an auto-wrist detection setting and necessitate a PIN for watch access once removed from the wrist. The feature is slated to be introduced soon as part of the Q1 beta feature rollout. Initially, Garmin users only required a passcode for Garmin Pay; however, extending it to the entire device is logical, considering the personal and health data stored on high-end Garmin watches, serving as a theft deterrent.

The Passcode feature is set to be added to the following Garmin models: Garmin Fenix 8, Garmin Fenix E, Garmin Enduro 3, Garmin Forerunner 165, Garmin Forerunners 255, 265, 955, and 965, Garmin Venu 3, and Garmin Vivoactive 5. The feature will not be tested on older versions of Fenix, Venu, Vivoactive, and Enduro watches, Garmin Instinct 3, or Garmin Lily 2 during the beta phase. However, a successful rollout may likely see the feature expanding to more Garmin watches.

In related developments, Garmin plans to provide users with a significant update for free and has introduced a substantial upgrade for customers in the EU and AUS, now offering ECG capabilities. Additionally, there are speculations that Wear OS might soon incorporate an Apple Watch feature to streamline commuting.
