Former Microsoft designer reveals scrapped plan for dynamic wallpapers in Windows 11
Attention Windows 11 users: the highly anticipated introduction of dynamic wallpapers featuring animations and effects has been officially abandoned by Microsoft. The concept, originally intended to elevate desktop backgrounds with captivating ‘live’ elements, was reportedly in the works for Windows 11 23H2 before being shelved.
Sergey Kisselev, an ex-Microsoft designer, unveiled potential dynamic wallpapers designed for low-cost devices targeting educational users. Despite glimpses of these innovative backgrounds in preview builds of Windows 11, recent confirmations indicate that the development has been halted indefinitely. The decision to remove the dynamic wallpapers and fancy AI-powered wallpapers from the roadmap has disappointed many users eagerly awaiting their debut.
The cancellation of this feature, including the sophisticated parallax effects and AI-driven enhancements, suggests that Microsoft has shifted its focus away from implementing these visual upgrades. With the component for live wallpapers pulled out in version 24H2, the prospect of immersive desktop experiences in Windows 11 seems bleak for now.
The future release of Windows 12 may offer hope for dynamic wallpaper enthusiasts, as the current trajectory indicates a deviation from such decorative enhancements. Until then, users seeking animated backgrounds must turn to third-party applications to fulfill their customization desires.
