Hackers were observed conducting a malvertising campaign to promote a fake Homebrew package, aiming to steal personal data from Mac users. The campaign was discovered by software developer Ryan Chenkie who identified the threat actors spreading malicious ads on Google to lure users into downloading a bogus version of Homebrew. Despite the deceptive tactics used, the Homebrew project leader mentioned that the campaign has been removed. However, users are advised to remain vigilant against such cyber threats targeting Mac users. AMOS, a notorious infostealer, was utilized in this campaign to extract sensitive information from victims. This incident highlights the ongoing risks of cyberattacks and the importance of staying cautious while installing software online.
