Sega America and Europe CEO Shuji Utsumi recently emphasized the company’s commitment to innovation in a recent interview. Highlighting Sega’s need to evolve to stay relevant, Utsumi announced that there will be no more mini retro consoles produced by the company.

In a conversation with The Guardian, Utsumi reflected on Sega’s history of introducing new styles and attitudes to gamers and expressed his desire to revive that essence through innovation rather than nostalgia. Sega’s recent successes with new titles like Metaphor: ReFantazio and beloved franchises like Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble showcase their dedication to pioneering new experiences. Despite speculation, Utsumi made it clear that Sega is not focusing on creating more mini consoles, opting instead to cater to modern gamers.

Although fans may be disappointed by the absence of potential mini consoles like a Sega Dreamcast Mini or Sega Saturn Mini, Utsumi’s vision for the company remains forward-thinking. Sega values its legacy but prioritizes delivering fresh content to avoid becoming stagnant in the gaming industry.
