In November 2024, the US government’s classified property, El Capitan, with AMD technology, claimed the title of the world’s fastest supercomputer. With a peak performance of 2.7 exaflops and built by HPE at LLNL to simulate nuclear weapons tests, it surpassed the previous leader, Frontier. ServeTheHome’s Patrick Kennedy attended the launch event, alongside AMD and HPE CEOs, witnessing the innovative liquid-cooled system. El Capitan stands out for its powerful AMD Instinct MI300A APUs and HPE Slingshot interconnect technology, showcasing the latest advancements in supercomputing. This cutting-edge technology marks a significant milestone in the realm of high-performance computing.
