European privacy advocacy group, None of Your Business (noyb), has filed complaints against six Chinese tech companies for allegedly transferring Europeans’ personal data to China, in violation of EU data transfer laws. Among the companies targeted are popular apps such as TikTok, AliExpress, SHEIN, Temu, WeChat, and Xiaomi. Experts highlight the risks associated with data transfers to China, emphasizing the lack of data protection and limited privacy rights for European users under Chinese laws. The complaints urge EU data protection authorities to suspend data transfers to China, underscoring the importance of safeguarding personal data and exercising caution when using Chinese apps or online services.
